HLJ VF-27 - WIP 6 - Midbody

Back to work and it's time to get you folks caught up. I've nearly finished this but my blog doesn't represent that. Just too much good Gundam stuff to talk about recently! Moving on!

Here are the parts in question.
From VF-27
Little details on the intake vent.  If you use the supplied stickers these will be covered up.

More details on the front side of the intake vent.  I ended up painting this in Gunmetal.

All assembled it looks like this.

And here's how much it can move.  Pretty crazy eh?

Once you add these little pieces to it you can connect the legs.

Bird man!  I know some people have mixed feelings about this but I've always liked the Gerwalk mode for the Macross fighters.  That was one of the coolest options to me.  The tripod legs provides a significant amount of stability.

  1. A few unrelated things here to talk to you about, BB...

    1. While I'm not a fan of Macross, I do respect their designs. I've always been fond of the Gerwalk mode since my first time using one in SRW Alpha Gaiden when it punched the crap out of grunt units.. That animation was just golden!

    2. I've just finished my MG Red Frame and I would like to hear (read?) your opinion on it (not on mine particularly, but the "MG Red Frame" as a whole) because if there's one person who I can think up of who has an attachment to it besides me... then that person would be you :). I don't remember reading any particular post about the MG on your blog (or I might've missed it) so thought I'd ask you ^^.

    3. I have a project in my mind that's been in development hell for awhile which I would like to consult with you through email about. I'll contact you when I've put together a form to show you. I would like to know what you think about it =)

    Thanks for your time, man!

  2. Looking good, Buster! I also prefer the Gerwalk mode. As a fighter the Macross kits don't look too impressive to me but the Gerwalk mode always makes it look like the futuristic machine it is. Looking forward to seeing the finished thing.

    1. im like you in a way too. im not the biggest fan of the anime specifically 7 and frontier but i like the mecha designs. always have.

    2. i think i may have made only ONE post about it. and it concerns YOU actually.

despite what i said there, i never ended up picking it up because something about it didnt feel right to me. I guess of all the red frames out there the 1/100 still looks the best to me. mg seemed too thin. pg too bulky. and the tactical arms is tough to wield at the best of times... i do think it looks good but when i weighed the price vs. the wow factor plus the fact that i have two already (i really should get it to finish my collection) i decided to stay away. I guess i figured that the one 1/100 red frame i already have was good enough. and to be honest i'd already grown quite attached to it and didnt feel the need to supplant it with a version that didnt look as good imo. i liked that they didnt mess around with the feet design too much. but the waist seemed a bit too thin, wasnt really feeling the head that much and there was just... so much going on. tactical arms is great and all but im not sure if it suits the red frame. so many weapons! its was actually too much for me! it didnt fit my image of what the suit should be

    3. anytime bro!

gaigun and tom - i actually like the fighter mode more too but gerwalk is not far behind it. i'll probably leave both planes in fighter made and change them to gerwalk now and then. doubt they'll see much action in battroid mode.

  5. Aha that post! Now I remembered xD.

Yea I agree with you about there is too much going on with the MG Red Frame. The Gundam is supposed to be "basic" to represent the original design of the Astray series! Well at the end of the day, while I think the MG looks great.. it doesn't steal the spotlight from the original 1/100 all the way (unlike the MG Blue Frame which made the 1/100 irrelevant). The 1/100 RF indeed still looks great ^^.

Well, if you ever change your mind then I'll be looking forward to see what you might do to it :D

  6. after seeing your review you might have just convinced me! and totally agree with you on the blue frame making the 1/100 BF useless. it wasnt really that good. not like the red.
